Academics

Our Curriculum

St. Paul believes that as part of God’s wonderful creation each of His children have been given gifts and talents in abundance. The purpose of education is to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and discipline to use those gifts both here in time and later in eternity. As good stewards of the gifts we have been given, it is our responsibility to develop them to their fullest.

St. Paul’s curriculum and academic program is accredited by the State of Illinois and the National Lutheran Schools Association. Religion, language, reading, social studies, science, and math make up the core of our curriculum. It is further enhanced through instruction in music, art, physical education, health, and technology. The academic program at St. Paul has been producing quality leaders in our community since 1961. Graduates of St. Paul routinely find academic and extra-curricular success in high school. The solid foundation throughout the curriculum and teaching we offer provides them with confidence they need to find success.

Enhanced Curriculum

Our academic program provides an accelerated curriculum within an enriched environment for hands-on learning as well as real-world application. Our techniques for learning allow for each child’s learning style to be touched. St. Paul has an integrated S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) curriculum in the areas of writing, math, science, etc. Our school focuses on these subjects to help our students gain skills required to succeed in today’s challenging world. This includes the ability to think critically and solve complex problems.

Our ultimate goal in S.T.E.M. integration is to encourage our students to take an interest in S.T.E.M. subjects at an early age. We integrate S.T.E.M. from preschool through 8th grade. This will be beneficial to them when they enter the job market one day. St. Paul also offers algebra to 7th and 8th grade students. St. Paul teachers understand that students need the skills to prepare for an ever-changing world. We believe that they must be given the tools necessary to function as Christians and leaders in our society.

Preschool

The curriculum for the 4-year-old classes includes kindergarten readiness skills involving introduction and development of letters, sounds, and numbers as well as development of small motor skills including beginning writing. Developmentally appropriate classroom projects and activities based on the selected theme units provide the basis for the choices that are available. Children attending school for more days will have the opportunity to enhance the development of all skills through additional activities and benefit from the enrichment and more in-depth development of the theme units. All preschool children benefit from the opportunity for peer socialization, building of self-confidence that comes from becoming more independent and participating in small and large group activities in a classroom environment.

Elementary School

Encouraging positive behaviors don’t end in preschool. Throughout the school, children are encouraged to investigate, learn and grow in concern for their fellow students. On Wednesday mornings, the student body comes together for Chapel services. Along with a moral message often including student participation, the children give food or monetary offerings to a certain cause.

Our teachers continually explore new methods of teaching and access up-to-date information to give the children every opportunity to achieve academically. St. Paul School offers a well-balanced, quality education in Reading, Math, English, Religion, Science, Social Studies, Computer Laboratory, Art, Music and Sports programs for boys and girls.

Junior High / Middle School

Core fundamentals that are emphasized in the elementary program are further developed in the Junior High program. This cultivation occurs through an excellent academic program that includes eighth grade algebra, computer science, daily religion class that instills a sense of importance of a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior, and an athletic program that encourages physical development.

During this impressionable time of transition from childhood to adolescence, the academic, physical and spiritual growth provided at St. Paul, provides our students the framework to succeed in all aspects of their life. St. Paul has produced and continues to produce leaders in the Rochelle area community and nationwide as well.
